The Orleans Casino Poker Tournaments Review

If you live in Las Vegas, and you are trying to get your bankroll going in the poker world then I would suggest you give The Orleans Casino a go.

In my opinion, The Orleans poker room in Vegas is one of the better places to play tournament poker.  It was named 2012 Best Poker Room by readers of the Las Vegas Review Journal, and for good reason.

When comparing The Orleans to some of the poker rooms on the strip you will find comparable tournament entry fees.

Orleans Poker Room Table

Tournament entry fees at The Orleans are as follows:

$60/$80 tournaments – $15

$100 tournaments – $20

$125 tournament – $25

However, not all that money goes back to the poker room and dealers.  Read from The Orleans official site:

“Entry fees are withheld to cover costs associated with the tournament such as beverage service, staffing, and tournament promotional funding.”

Pay close attention to that last bit about promotional funding.  This is where The Orleans will reward you for playing at their casino.

Recently The Orleans changed their buyin structure to include an addon of chips for some of their tournaments.  The addons are currently only for their $60 tourneys that run Mon-Thurs at 12:05pm.  The cost of the addon is $20 for 2000 chips.  For $60 you get 6000 chips so with the addon that is 8000 chips to start the tourney.

Comparably that is a healthy stack of chips to start with, and especially true for a lower level $80 tourney.  Even if you decide to not addon and play with 6000 chips for $60 you would be doing pretty good for such a price. It would be hard to find anywhere else with such value for such a low limit tournament. (The value is more obvious when you see the blinds structure)

Tournament Players of the Month Promotions

Now back to that tournament promotional funding deal.  Some of the entry fee money goes into their monthly prize pool to be awarded to the top tournament players of the month.  The Orleans has their own player of the month ranking system, and if you are good enough-  you can score big at the end of the month if you can be consistent with your winnings in their poker tourneys.

Recently The Orleans added a new tournament poker promotion called the “Tournaments Played in The Month” promotion.  This promotion rewards you just for being there and playing!  The top 4 players that participate in the most tournaments in the month will win the cash.

“Each month, the four (4) players that have participated in the most tournaments will divide the prize monies as follows: 50% for first place, 25% for second, 15% for third, and 10% for fourth.”

However, there is no guarantee that you will get anything since the prize money is defined as follows:

“The prize monies for each month’s competition will be comprised of the total amount of the tournament promotional fund, minus the monies awarded to the Tournament Player of the Month competition.”

The good news is that each month there is $5000 for the top tournament players of the month to fight over in their “Tournament Player of the Month” promotion!

“Each month, the top four point earners will divide $5,000 as follows: 50% for first place, 25% for second, 15% for third, and 10% for fourth.”

The first place prize will be $2,500. No chump change for being consistent and loyal to the Orleans Poker room.

Local or Tourist, The Orleans has a great poker room.

If you don’t live in Vegas, and you are just visiting then don’t overlook The Orleans Poker room either. There are plenty of reasons to give it a go.

The Orleans poker tournaments have one of the better blind structures for a tourney when compared with other tournaments with in Vegas. Even when comparing the blind structure to other tournaments with higher buyins they still stack up well against other Vegas Casinos.

They run 2 tournaments a day. One at 12:05pm, and later that night at 7:05pm.

The blind structure for no Limit tournaments at The Orleans poker room has an hour of 20 minute blinds, then it goes to 30 minute blinds. It would be very hard to find a blind structure that allows for so much poker playing time with a buyin of only $60.

Usually, at best you will see 20 minute blinds all the way through the tourney.  At some of these casinos the blinds increase at a much higher rate per level when compared to The Orleans poker tourney blind structure. Notice The big blinds don’t have any doubling throughout the structure.

I should note that through the end of the first break if a player is knocked out of the tournament they are allowed to re-enter. This can make for some interesting play and different money management styles.

For example, some players will buyin for $60, and also addon $20 and then just play with the 8000 chips. Other players may decide to just buyin for $60 and play loose aggressive knowing they can re-enter for only $60 if they lose.

I should probably also note that you need to have the “B Connected” casino rewards card in order to be eligible for these promotions. I don’t think they let you join a tournament without one either.
